Mobile heart, vascular screening unit to visit La Porte, Knox

The Heart Cart Mobile Screening Unit will visit La Porte and Knox in September to offer discounted heart and vascular screenings:
   • La Porte: Heart and Vascular Institute at Heritage Place, 901 Lincolnway, Conference Room, on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 7:30 a.m. to noon
   • La Porte: Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1480 Boyd Blvd., on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon
   • Knox: Starke Memorial Hospital, 102 E. Culver Rd., on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 7:30 to 11 a.m.
   • La Porte: Golden Living Center, Fountainview, 1900 Andrew Ave., on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 8 t o 11 a.m.

The convenient screening package offers a comprehensive picture of one’s cardiovascular health, with testing reviewed by a Board Certified physician. The screening test for: abnormal heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, blood pressure, fasting cholesterol and glucose levels, heart disease, Metabolic Syndrome, poor leg circulation, stroke and weight.

Once screened, individuals will have the opportunity to discuss their health information with a cardiovascular nurse navigator ? a registered nurse of LRHS who serves as a liaison between patients and their heart and vascular wellness. Results will be mailed to the individual three to four weeks following the screening. Individuals may take the results to their doctor for follow up.

Pre-registration is required. The service is worth $1,200 but only costs $100, and is payable by cash, check or credit card. In order to offer this service at a discount to the community, LRHS does not bill insurance for the services. Patients are responsible for payment in full. Space is limited.
