Support Groups

Support groups can be a crucial step in a patient (or family member���s) disease process. Together, with others in similar situations, healing can begin. We are pleased to offer a number of support groups to help you and your family through life���s most difficult times.

Locations:

La Porte Hospital is located at 1007 Lincolnway, La Porte.
The Crossing is located at 1203 Washington Street, La Porte.
Heritage Place is located at 901 Lincolnway, La Porte.

Adult Diabetes Support Group
Providing a place to share practical ideas, experiences and problems relating to diabetes
Date: 3rd Tuesday of each month
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: The Crossing, Multi-Purpose Room

ALANON
Offers hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics
Date: Every Friday
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: The Crossing, Multi-Purpose Room

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
AA is a voluntary, worldwide fellowship of men and women from all walks of life who meet together to attain and maintain sobriety
Date: Every Wednesday
Time: 6:45 p.m.

Aphasia Support Group
Aphasia is an acquired disorder, most commonly caused by a stroke, which impairs a person’s ability to communicate. Primary signs of aphasia include difficulty expressing oneself when speaking, trouble understanding speech and difficulty with reading and writing.
Date: 2nd Tuesday of each month
Time: 3:30 p.m.

Breast Cancer Support Group
Providing emotional and social support to those affected by Breast Cancer
Date: 4th Tuesday of each month
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: La Porte Hospital, Room 5103 (5th floor)

Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Support Group
Provides emotional support and guidance at the early stages of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. It is professionally facilitated and affiliated with the American Cancer Society.
Date: 3rd Wednesday of each month
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Location: La Porte Hospital Center for Cancer Therapy (back entrance of hospital on Washington Street)

���WeCAN��� Cancer Support Group
Providing patients, families, and caregivers a chance to share experiences and learn new ways of coping with the disease process
Date: 2nd Wednesday of each month
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Location: The Crossing, Multi-Purpose Room

Epilepsy Support Group
Provides a chance to share the emotions and struggles of living with the seizure disorder, and to learn new ways of coping with the chronic condition
Date: 1st Tuesday of each month
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Location: Heritage Place, Cardiac Rehab Classroom, first floor

Multiple Sclerosis Support Group
Providing emotional and social support to patients, families and caregivers affected by multiple sclerosis
Date: 2nd Wednesday of each month (no meetings in June, July and August)
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: La Porte Hospital Auditorium, B103 (lower level)

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
Provides support and advocacy for individuals with mental illness, and family and friends of those individuals.
Date: 1st Thursday of each month
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Location: La Porte Hospital, Room B113 (lower level)

Ostomy Support Group
Providing emotional support, instructional and information services to persons who have had surgery resulting in a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy
Date: 1st Tuesday of each month
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Location: La Porte Hospital, Executive Conference Room (first floor)

Parkinson���s Support Group
Supporting those with Parkinson's disease, their families and caregivers in adapting more positively to the physical, emotional and social changes associated with the disease
Date: 3rd Tuesday of the following months: January, April, July, and October
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: The Crossing, Multi-Purpose Room

STICK (Supporting Teens in Caring for Kids) Support Group
Providing teen parents with emotional and social support, as well as education on community programs
Date: 3rd Wednesday of each month
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: La Porte Hospital, Room B113 (lower level)

Stroke Support Group
Providing patients, families and caregivers a chance to share experiences and support those in need of overcoming the common challenges caused by stroke
Date: 2nd Tuesday of each month
Time: 2:30 p.m.
