Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in America. In effective cardiac care, the “Golden Hour” (first 60 minutes of a heart attack) is critical to the patient’s long-term success and improved outcomes.

The availability of open-heart surgery and angioplasty conveniently located in our community provides a significant advantage to the way we deliver cardiac care. While The Heart Center is located on the 1st and 2nd floors of La Porte Regional Health System, our diagnostic and outpatient services are conveniently located on the first floor. The second floor includes two open-heart suites located just around the corner from the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The CVICU utilizes the cardiac universal bed concept, which allows the patients to stay in the same bed from admission to discharge.

The Heart Center services include:

• Open-heart surgery - the majority of cases are performed using state-of-the-art, off-pump technology (without the aid of a heart/lung machine)
• Vascular procedures
  • Carotid endartarectomy surgery (repair of blocked neck arteries)
  • Aortic Aneurysm repair
  • Aorta bifemoral repair
  • Femoral popliteal repair (repair of blocked leg arteries)
  • Embolectomies (removal of clot from a vessel either through surgery or a catheter)
• Thoracic surgeries
  • Lung Resections (removal of a section of lung)
• Cardiovascular intervention
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Coronary stent procedures
  • Temporary and permanent pacemakers
