La Porte Regional Health System’s (LRHS) financial counselors are ready and willing to help patients find the resources they need to pay their hospital bills when times get tough.

Financial counselors offer one-on-one, customized assistance to all patients in need of healthcare financial guidance. The service is offered free to all patients, regardless if they do or do not have health insurance. Patients who are having trouble paying their medical bills may not know where to turn. Many may not even know LRHS is available to help.

The counselors ask patients a series of questions about their income, assets, employment status, number of children, etc. Based on the answers, they will find which financing option the patient qualifies for, including: Medicaid, Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), LRHS Financial Assistance program, payment arrangements or other options.

No matter the circumstances, financial counselors will find an option for each individual. LRHS wants to make a difference in patients’ lives and take the financial burden off of them.

LRHS financial counselors don’t stop there. They answer any financial questions the patient may have and explain each step of the process for the patient, offering guidance on how to fill out an application, what paperwork is needed and what deadlines to meet.

The counselors look at each individual’s financial situation and determine how they can best be of assistance to the patient. The assistance is a blessing for patients who are stressed or confused. Bills can easily pile up and become overwhelming causing the patient to become anxious. The counselors all agree that it is a blessing to see the patient’s demeanor change to the positive before they leave the office.

At LRHS, patients are treated with compassion, and looked at as human beings and not as dollar signs creating a win-win situation or solution that works for everyone.

La Porte Regional Health System’s mission is to offer the best patient experience possible.
