Joint Replacement Camp

Located on the fourth floor of La Porte Hospital, the Joint Replacement Camp is designed to provide a group setting for patients who have undergone a knee or hip replacement. Our nine-bed facility features private home-like rooms designed for our patient’s comfort.
For patients that have elected to have joint replacement surgery, their experience begins at their physician’s office. Future Joint Campers are given information about their upcoming surgery and are scheduled to meet in our “Clubhouse” to begin the education process. Our “Clubhouse” is our activity room where our Joint Campers dine, exercise, receive education, and meet fellow Joint Campers. Educating our Joint Campers on the surgery procedures, pre-operative exercise to prepare your body for optimal post-operative activity, and post-operative care is extremely important prior to their scheduled surgery date so they can focus on recovery.
The Joint Replacement Camp concept focuses on the fact that our Joint Campers are well individuals, but have a condition that requires a hip or knee replacement. Our goal is to return our Joint Campers to a more normal, healthy lifestyle. According to research, peer encouragement decreases recovery time because the therapy is within a group of people who are experiencing similar situations.
La Porte Regional Health System offers free knee and hip pain seminars throughout the year. Learn about the causes, treatments, medications, nutrition, and exercises available. If you or someone you know suffers from knee or hip pain, call (219) 326-2392 to register for the next seminar.
Only a good diagnosis from a specialist is the best way to know if knee or hip replacement is right for you.
