SameDay Center
Outpatient Surgery and Endoscopy
The SameDay Center represents another breakthrough in patient care at La Porte Regional Health System. Located on the second floor of the South Pavilion, the SameDay Center is just steps away from the main surgical suites, making back-up services and emergency equipment immediately accessible. This new facility is a convenient, cost-effective solution for patients who don’t require general anesthesia or an overnight stay.
Procedures performed at the SameDay Center include, but are not limited to:- Simple biopsies
- Wart removal
- D & C (dilatation & curettage)
- Endoscopy
- Hernia repair
- Cyst removal
- Vasectomy/Tubal ligation
- Cataract surgery
- Carpal tunnel relief
- Laser procedures such as lesion removal
Preparing for your surgery/What to expect
To give patients and their families guidelines on how to prepare for surgery, La Porte Hospital has created a special video presentation. The video outlines several different procedures performed at the SameDay Center and explains what to expect. Brochures are also available on the various procedures. The SameDay Center features a separate registration area and a private family waiting area. To streamline your check-in process, we offer pre-registration. You simply come in a few days before your procedure to fill out insurance and release forms and have any tests done that your doctor has ordered for you. That way, all the appropriate information will already be compiled before you arrive, and you will simply check in, get your identification wristband, and wait to be called for your scheduled procedure.
Patient/Family Support Nurse
We value communication between our patients and their families. To facilitate communication, a patient/family support nurse is available to answer any questions or concerns you may have during your loved one’s surgical procedure.
During your visit, a patient/family support nurse will be available to keep you informed every step of the way and answer any questions you may have. The patient/family support nurse communicates with the surgical staff during the procedure and informs you of the progress.
Once the procedure is complete, the surgeon will come out and speak with you to let you know how the procedure went.
RecoveryAdjacent to the procedure rooms, the outpatient holding area provides private cubicles where patients await their procedures and recover. These rooms are equipped with electronic monitoring capabilities, and the area includes restrooms and a nourishment center to enhance our patients’ comfort and convenience.
Inexpensive overnight stays on an adjacent patient care unit can be arranged for patients who prefer to be at the hospital prior to or after their procedures. Our staff will oversee these stays, and though nursing care is not provided, nurses and physicians are readily available should a problem arise. Specialized menus are available to patients who take advantage of the optional stay program.
